Kick off those stilettos…

25 04 2009

red-stilettoIt’s National Foot Health Awareness Month, so of, course, I’m writing a post about foot health.

According to the American Podiatric Medical Association, footwear has been designed to meet the real and perceived needs of our feet dating from Ancient Egypt.

And did you know a typical day of walking brings a force equal to several hundred tons on them?

Of course, you as a woman know how much pressure [pun intended] we put on our feet [and I understand, some of my, er, ‘vertically-challenged gals feel they need them]. Some of our issues result in wearing high heels (i.e., heels more than two inches). Podiatrists believe such heels are “medically unsound and attribute postural and safety problems to their use.”

So, what’s a girl to do?

Well, you can limit the time you wear these abusive shoes by switching it up with sneakers or cute flats [my personal fave].  You can also vary the heel size in pumps you wear. Or if you insist on wearing your stilettos, keep a comfy pair of shoes on your person [or in your car or office].

Here are more reasons why you may want to ditch your heel habit: High Heels are Not an Everyday Shoe.
