Some things to think about before buying organic or natural products: Just because a product claims to be organic doesn’t mean it is. Some companies even use words like ‘natural’ and ‘pure’ just so you think they are. And the USDA [United States Department of Agriculture] only regulates what is organic, not what’s pure or natural. With that said, read the labels on products and make sure they say ‘certified organic’ by the USDA. This tells you that 95% of the ingredients were grown organically. If the USDA says the product was ‘made with organic ingredients’, at least 70% of the ingredients are organic.

You should also be aware of allergies you have before buying organic products. Read the list of ingredients to be sure that none of them will irritate your skin.

Two helpful websites: safecosmetics.org– helps you discover if the cosmetics you are now using are safe, what companies are doing to change their ways and brands that might work for you and your family.

thegreenguide.com: Dirty Dozen– if you want to go organic, this list tells you which products to avoid because of their ingredients.

What is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to look good and be environmentally-conscious? Cut back on how much you use; that means less crap on your skin and more time and money. And besides, pretty girl, do you really need all that makeup?
