Do Something!

14 04 2009

woman-watching-tvSomething that frustrates and saddens me at the same time is people who don’t [seem to] want to do anything at all with their lives, and those just settling for anything- basically people who lack ambition, especially youth. I see people just sitting around all day doing nothing or working at dead end jobs with no plans or goals for a better future. Now, don’t get me wrong, I understand if a person has a family to take care of; in those situations, you do what you have to do for your family. But I see young people- people under the age of 30- not even trying to look for some work, not trying to figure out what they want to do or just settling for a little-more-than-minimum wage job.

And I also understand needing and wanting to make money, but in my opinion, that doesn’t mean shouldn’t have other, loftier goals or ambitions in your life. I think everybody should be moving towards something better than what they have now.

Kimora wrote something in her book that really resonated with me: It’s not a weakness if you don’t know what to do with your life- that’s the state most of us are in most of the time. The weakness is if you don’t want anything at all and settle for just the minimum of what you can get.

Kimora suggests going to school or college if you’re not sure what you want to do. I would also suggest maybe taking a class or just do some research on a career you’re interested in.

“Don’t sit at home doing nothing and not know! You don’t have to know what you want to be when you graduate. Get active. Take the classes, meet the people, and a clearer path will emerge than if you were just sitting home. Because you can’t generate something from nothing- no matter how hard you sit and think it over. And this applies to anything in life. If you don’t know what to do, do something.”

So, if you’re one of the above people, please take some time to think about what you may want to do, write down some goals and start doing something today to get on your path to success.
