April is Alcohol Awareness Month, so I decided to find out some things women need to know about alcohol. I found 10 things women should know; five are listed below. wine20i20stock20toasting500

  1.  It’s full of calories. If you’re trying to watch your weight, you should probably not have that glass of wine every night. Why? Because it has almost 200 calories, which is 10 percent of a woman’s daily calorie allowance.
  2. It messes with your hormones. It can increase the levels of oestrogen, testosterone and insulin in your body. And excessive drinking can make a higher level of oestrogen which is frequently connected with the beginning of a breast cancer.
  3. It influences your mental well-being. While many people have drinks to relax, alcohol is a depressant and can affect your nervous system. In higher doses, alcohol can raise your levels of anxiety, which can result in mood swings and a low the next day. In serious incidents, heavy drinking can cause more serious pyschological issues.
  4. It’s bad for your skin. Since alcohol dehydrates your body and dilates your blood vessels, it creates dry skin and the look of red veins close to your skin’s surface.
  5. It can reduce your fertility. Drinking alcohol is strongly connected to hormonal imbalances, which can influence the balance of your menstrual cycle.
